O'BRIAN OUT FOR THE SEASON
« on: Jan 27th, 2006, 6:25pm »

I have just read the Dominion Post .The newspaper is from Wellington ,New Zealand .The sports headlines say that Ian O'brian the wellington and new zealand fast bowler is out of action for the rest of the season with a back injury .His replacement is Charlie Shreck , the notts bowler .
Is this the O'Brian that the follow on lads claim to be one of the quickest ,and best , bowlers in the Bassetlaw League . Did he play for Glapwell last season and will this throw a doubt as to O'Brians availability this season ? Check it out on --- newspapers in New Zealand ( ask jeeves ) and click on to Dominion Post ( Wellington )

Oh Dear
Does that mean that I will not be able to (as Ian O'Brian says himself) hit him for the hugest six that he has seen, again this season... Grin

Oba is taking a rest with his back to prepare for the Bassetlaw season. On sound advice from the Wellington medics, they realise that the English season is far more important.

2 stress fractures.  Even if he plays he'll be no where near 100%.  Still be one of the best inspite of it.

I wish they still had fights in this game so I could bitch-slap Wayne.

Speaking to Oba on Friday, he's simply got to rest it at the moment. He's pretty confident that he'll be ok and actually said "this could benefit Glapwell as I'll be raring to go" - maybe take a few games for him to get into the swing of things but it always does.

I hope that's the case.  Quality player and it's never nice to see anyone miss with an injury.

I was of the understanding that stress fractures in the back take about 6 months to be fully right.  Could be completely wrong.

Anyone going to 'Jimmy' about the name of the thread?  Grin

Stress fractures don't show on Xrays until they have started to heal so let's hope he is already on the mend.  Just in case Ian reads this himself, I'm the England Indoor Mum who travelled all the way to Wellington in September 2002.  Get well soon.

Hey all..

Yup, out for this season here in NZ.  3 stress fractures in my lower back.  So that means 3 months off bowling from when I stopped.  This maybe a little shorter if things go well, if the bone knits quickly; and I'm doing everything I can for that...

Kinda makes a mess of this season here for me, but, I can assure you I will be keen to play once the healing and strengthen has been done. Just about in time for the start of the wonderful English summer.

Stef, I remember, and thanks....  you right with the x-rays, it doesn’t show, but the MRI and then the CT scan show it all.  Real pretty picture, pretty messy in there actually!

Oh, and Stevo, you've been knocked off the biggest 6 too.... The big guy, captain from Blidworth with all the 'bling', John, i think; last ball of the match, 6 to win..... mmmm.. that was big!!

Iain,

Thanks for the update. Does this mean you'll be back at Glapwell this season?

Hope you are fit and raring to go for the season, Oba.  Only took me 8 deliveries to pick up the slower ball.  Grin

Ok mate i'll not mention it again, but it was really a go at our openers who got wiped out by you, not at you but it is nice getting runs against a quality bowler. Get well and hope to see you soon.
