Sorry rogerlee, you are echoing my point - the bassetlaw is poorer now than it was 20 years ago. You would expect the standard to be about as good a the old 1B standard but in my opinion it is probably not that good.
I agree with you that there are more promising youngsters coming through - this is because there is a generation of cricketers that are rolling their sleeves up and putting time into proper coaching and facilities are generally better, cuckney and MHM as well as all the artificial wickets etc. means more time for practice.
My only poor point was suggesting Dave French was an overseas player - which of course he isn't - but a damn good spinner.
The overseas players are carrying teams now more so than in the 1980s because the standard is worse.
