Been to the ground this afternoon and things are not good. This is no surprise however, seeing as the bowling pavilion was nearly burnt down 3 weeks ago, a storage cabin last year and the skateboard ramp the year before. These vandals have no respect for other people's recreation or property. Sadly society has a lot to answer to and this is a common problem with today's youth - West Hallam where I live has similar youth problems. Life goes on and The Elks go on!! On a practical front I have already spoken to the Chairman of Awsworth Parish Council about the situation and there is an Emergency Council meeting tomorrow night to discuss the matter. In the mean time the Council will be on to the insurers in the morning to see what temporary facilities may be provided by insurance funds - the long term will obviously take longer to decide as it is clear a replacement building will have to be a brick built one, but then a shortfall of funds becomes a problem. We will know more on Tuesday when the Council have met and their Insurers contacted. Regarding the equipment lost we will obviously be discussing the matter with our Insurers. As the season is so near, we are also making preliminary enquiries with other Clubs and neighbouring Councils to check whether alternative facilities are available to host our 3rd and 4th XI's for some or all of next season. May I take this opportunity in asking all teams who are scheduled to play our 3rd XI or 4th XI this season to please check the venue for the games, although we will obviously give plenty of notice should there be a change of venue. Thank you in advance for your understanding!! James Hunt Chairman Stanton & Awsworth Elks Cricket Club
