Help with One-on-One coaching wanted!
« on: Apr 1st, 2006, 10:36pm »

Hi all!

I'm a 28-year old lad recently arrived to the area (Aspley in Nottingham, near the David Lloyd TC) from the North East, and I have decided to get back into the game after a 9 year lay-off.  I've contacted a couple of the regular posters on here looking for some advice, and I firstly just wanted to say thanks for all the help I've received back!

My question is that as I'm currently waiting to start my new job in about 5 week’s time (hopefully! waiting for the contract to arrive...) I've got loads of time to watch Jeremy Kyle (ask a housewife/unemployed person what this is!), play Xbox Online Live and drink tea every daytime.  I've decided to get some one-on-one coaching, to give me the best chance for the new season, and I'm looking for some help in finding it.

I've already been in touch with Eddie Burke at Notts CCC, who has put me in touch with Chris Revel and Mark Dobb - both up Mansfield way- and Mark is able to do sessions once or twice a week.  Derbyshire CCC have told me of two days they're running on the 17/18 April only (already signed up!) and Leicestershire CCC have put me in touch with Mo Bobat (?) and I'm waiting to hear back from him.  I've also been in touch with an Australian lady who coaches, but she's returning back Down Under on Monday for 3 weeks!  I've also got a session booked at the John Birch Indoor Sports Centre coming up.

As you can see I've tried, and that's why I'm looking for some help!  I'm trying to get daytime sessions with a coach, and I'm willing to travel up to 45 minutes from Nottingham NG8 to get it.  I'm happy to rent a net for an hour and pay a coach as well, and I'd preferably like to use a bowling machine.  Can any of you guys help me?  If you know a coach with some time on their hands, please let me know!  I'd really appreciate it!

Anyway, enough said, thanks to those who've already been in touch and hope to speak soon!

David.

Cricketal in Chesterfield is an indoor cricket practice centre that does coaching as well

number is 01246 555245

Cuckney Cricket Centre is another indoor centre, not sure if they have coaching

Their number is 01623 845555

Some very good coaches there.  If you can get in with JD Brown, he'll probably be the best for you in your circumstances.

I wish they still had fights in this game so I could bitch-slap Wayne.

Try Graham Dilley at Loughborough University. He is the UCCE student team coach, but students are away for Easter just now so he might have some spare time.

Don't have the number for it but The Willows Sports Centre in Basford is about 10 minutes from you.

Run by a guy called Jon Birch ex Notts player and coach and he does a lot of one on one sessions and did a lot of work with young players at our club. Would be your nearest and best bet I'd say.

Thanks all for your help here - just had first session with Jo(h)n Birch of J.Birch Sports Centre - very helpful.  Didn't help that I arrived late - don't think that made me popular to start with - but gave me some really good tips for the coming season.  Thanks again, I'm going to try the other places tomorrow (seeing JB again tomorrow - think I may be too keen at the minute lol!)

Thanks all again, really appreciate the help!  I'm chuiffed that there are you people out there who are willing to help and put newbies in the direction of a new club etc.  Cheers!
