If the names Bob Appleyard, Bomber Wells, Arthur Milton,Roly Jenkins etc, mean nothing to you, then click off now.
Yesterday Bass' umps'  were given a talk by the author Stephen Chalke, 2 hrs of supreme cricket nostalgia and laughter.
Insert his name in Google and under 2 sites (mysite wanadoo/ fairfield books) , on these are extracts from his books and articles. He really captures the flavour of the  characters and time when the game of cricket and the social side was in my view, at its  best. (yes I am a silver surfer!)

fantastic reading -- don't know how you found Stephen Chalke . reading the Auther Milton story , he said that Milton was the last man to play for England at cricket AND football . I thought that accolade went to Dennis Compton ? Les Flavell -- 171 wickets in a season --- and then they decided to cover the wickets !!!  Bowlers eat your heart.
