Division One
Defending Champions Holmesfield face a tricky trip to newly promoted Stocksbridge, who also head the table. Hard on their heels are Parkhead and Hollinsend Methodists. Both are at home, Parkhead playing Centralians who badly need a win and Hollinsend take on De La Salle at Fox Lane. These two had a couple of closely fought contests last summer. Hathersage await the visit of University Staff and hope to build on last week’s good win. Lastly at Calver go to Hundall with both sides looking to break their duck for the season.
Nottinghamshire Premier League - preview 19/05/12

Preview of Round 5 of Matches – Saturday 19th May 2012

In what must be the most delayed start to a Premier League season ever, West Indian Cavaliers this weekend travel to Papplewick for what they hope will be their first league encounter of the season after their initial four games were lost to the weather. They face a side that has only completed one game but that was a win last weekend against an under-performing Plumtree side in a 20-point to nil victory. They have also had an abandoned match the previous week and these games have allowed skipper Matt Dowman, Warren Nel and Mark Nelson find some early season

Nottinghamshires Visually Impaired Cricketers Beat Hampshire

The newly formed Nottinghamshire Visually Impaired Cricket Club (NVICC) has won it’s first competitive game in visually impaired cricket when they took on and defeated Hampshire VICC at the weekend. The Notts side took the game at a canter, winning by 9 wickets with 9 overs remaining in a 30-overs-a-side match.

The team, only formed in 2010, has a squad of 19 players with varying degrees of visual impairment and they play a game very similar to traditional cricket but with a size 3 football instead of a regular cricket ball. The ball contains a small amount of lead shot so that those without any sight can hear the ball and react to its sound when batting bowling and fielding.

NVICC chairman Bernard Sullivan said “This

Dominant Wiffen cuts leaders down to size

Early season pacesetters Thoresby Colliery were given a wake-up call at Balderton in Division One of the Newark Alliance. The newly promoted side had no answer to Dominic Wiffen who smashed 123 not out off just 76 balls to see the hosts register a match-winning 268 for 3. In reply Thoresby’s normally reliable batting line-up failed to fire and they checked out well short (182 for 6).

After the wet start to the season reigning Champions Gedling Colliery finally got their title defence up and running at the third attempt. A lack of match sharpness though saw them slip to a comprehensive defeat at Radcliffe-On-Trent.

Despite Geoff Burton’s best efforts (68*) Gedling stumbled to 127 all out before in-form Radcliffe opener

Division One

Parkhead went to Beauchief and had no compunction in inserting home team De La Salle on a damp pitch. Dave Spilman took 4-23 to dismiss DLS for 128. Captain Adam Burkinshaw’s excellent 51 not out saw Parkhead’s young team to a 6 wicket win and gain top spot in the table. University staff were also caught on a difficult pitch at their Warminster Road home and were shot out for just 60 by Stocksbridge (Jim Tomlinson 5-23 C Vickers 4-9), who went on win 6 wickets. Hundall struggled to 69-9 (Rossington 4-8), which Holmesfield surpassed without difficulty with only one wicket down. Hathersage could only muster 116 all out (Joe Parkin 5-18) at Olive Grove Road, but hosts Sheffield Centralians were routed by
