Old Derbeians player search for 2002 season Imran Khan, skipper of Old Derbeians Cricket Club, tells us that they are looking for players to strengthen their squad for the 2002 season. The club are also looking for pre-season friendlies. Imran says: "We are on the look out for a couple of batsmen for the first team and are looking for a mixture of young and perhaps not-so-young for the second eleven. A bit of experience leading our second outfit would be absolutely ideal." He went on to tell us: "Last year it was agreed that future success at the club would rely heavily on attracting a few established players. Perhaps the situation is not critical at the moment, with a record of two losses and one losing draw in 106 league games suggesting that we have not found 'our level' just yet. However, last season there were more than just a few scares and the batting line up looked fragile. We were beaten soundly by Lullington in the cup and BDA turned us over in the league without too much fuss. Yours truly managed to contribute very little last season, so whereas we had had the division usually tied up by August, this year was not quite such a cruise." Khan says the club are looking for "two established first-teamers, 750 runs a season type of batsmen, a wicket keeper, and a Mr.'Line and Length'" . He told us "All new recruits will experience a confident, vibrant and committed dressing room and a great bunch of lads. The club is well organised with regular social get togethers and a smart club kit. The second eleven ideally could benefit from an experenced player coming in as captain. The talent is there, however the experience of playing 46 over league cricket, is not. They finished bottom of the league and there is an obvious need of players in all departments." Old Derbeians are also looking for pre-season friendlies. They don't have access to their ground pre-season so any fixtures will have to be away. Contact Imran if you are interested.
