Etwall 2nds romp to Harwood Cup success
by Gwyn Jones, 28th August 2001

THE HARWOOD CUP played at Stainsby Hall on Monday August 27th

Denby 4ths 185-8 lost to Etwall 2nds 188-6 by 4 wickets

Denby batted first and made a good start, putting on 81 for the first wicket. Mark Payne scored 36 and Matt Anderson 54, but when they were dismissed the scoring rate dropped and wickets began to fall. For Etwall Darren Ashmole produced a good spell, taking 5-35.

Etwall were shaken at the start of their innings when opening bat veteran Alan Hancock was out first ball. However, Richard Coulson and Craig Tunnicliffe soon dispelled their fears in a second wicket stand of 79. Coulson was out after a rapid 52 and, though wickets continued to fall, Tunnicliffe increased the momentum to such good effect that they romped home in 30.5 overs. He scored 14 off the final over and ended on 99 not out.. For Denby Matt Anderson took 3-67.
