John Morris looks set to join Dunstall John Morris joins the growing list of former Test and county players on show in the Derbyshire Premier League when he joins runners-up Dunstall for 2002. Former Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Durham batsman John Morris looks set to sign for Derbyshire Premier League runners-up Dunstall. The Staffordshire side, who were also runners-up to Langley Mill in the Premier Cup, announced today that they are close to signing the 37 year old. Morris retired from first-class cricket at the end of the 2001 season. He made his first-class debut in 1982, scoring 1,000 runs in a season eleven times. He played three Test matches against India in 1990. He also played eight one-day internationals in New Zealand and Australia in the 1990/1 winter tour. In his long first class career, Morris scored 20,899 runs at an average of 37.12 including 50 centuries and 100 fifties. His highest score was 229. In his final season for Nottinghamshire, he scored 640 runs at an average of 45.71 runs. He played his final game for Notts in the National League on Sunday 16th September 2001 when he helped his team avoid relegation and prevented neighbours Leicestershire from becoming champions. His 57 runs earned him the man of the match award. Morris will be a welcome sight on the grounds of Derbyshire in 2002 adding to the growing list of former Test and county players in the Derbyshire leagues.
