Aussie Scott Phillips not returning for 2002
by Alan Rowley, 26th October 2001

Sting In The Tail can exclusively reveal that Australian star Scott Phillips, who took the County League by storm for Morton Colliery last season, will not be returning to this country for the 2002 season.

Phillips, who worked for Clay Cross based GBL International last summer, is now busy working for them in his own country trying to establish their new product VK Vodka Kick. Phillips told Sting In The Tail's contact that due to his job, under no circumstances would he be returning to play this coming season.

This will come as a blow to several clubs who were hoping to recruit him for the 2002 season. Quarndon , as well as Morton Colliery, were said to be making approaches to the Aussie.

Morton CollieryOn the subject of Morton Colliery (pictured right), it's now looking quite likely that Simon Dignan will return as their overseas player next season. He's in the area at the moment after touring around Europe and says he's about 85% certain that he will return.

Dignan also said that he's now managed to shake off the back injury that was affecting him when he last played over here in 2000. If Dignan makes it back to Morton, he will have no mean task following in the footsteps of Phillips.
