County League sides are set to vote on the Pyramid
by Gwyn Jones, 23rd September 2001

Around the County League there is one important issue on the agenda, whether to accept the proposal of the Derbyshire Cricket Board to reorganise the League into a pyramid structure or to leave things as they are.

At present access to the Premier League is through Division 1 of the County League, on the basis of one up and one down. The pyramid would enable the winners of other Leagues in the area to move into the Premier structure without having to join the County League, provided, of course, if they wish to do so.

Those who oppose the pyramid say that aspiring teams can join the County League, as at present, and work their way up, but the supporters of the pyramid insist that the change is necessary for the Premier League to retain its status as an accredited League by the ECB, and thereby partake of the financial and other benefits which go with accreditation.

All clubs have been given copies of the pyramid plan, with the arguments of both sides, and a vote will be taken at the Rules Revision Meeting on 12th November.
