County League Under 25s beaten by Bassetlaw The Derbyshire County League under 25's v The Bassetlaw League under 25's, played at Denby CC on Sunday August 26 This annual fixture produced an excellent contest, with the outcome decided off the very last ball. The Derbyshire League batted first and made steady progress against some tight and lively bowling.. Ben Perry-Taylor made 34 and Sam Kellogg 23 before the score was boosted by a sixth wicket partnership between Ross Perry-Taylor (64 not out) and Sean Polley (27 not out). James Brice took 2-27 for the Bassetlaw League. A feature of the Bassetlaw innings was the second wicket stand of 99 between Richard Grainger and Jim Rhodes. Grainger was bowled by Neil Smith for 76 and Rhodes was run out for 50. Progress was slowed down considerably when Derbyshire introduced spinners Chris Windmill and Joe Greenhalgh and the response late in the innings was distinctly nervous, resulting in three run outs. James Brice had the honour of facing the last ball, knowing that four were needed to win and the bowler was the Derbyshire captain and opening bowler Neil Smith. He did the right thing in hitting it for four. The Derbyshire County League U 25's 176-5 lost to the Bassetlaw League U 25's 177-5 by 1 run
