LCC President's Trophy falls victim of the weather The semi-final of the Presidents Trophy at Queens Park fell foul of the weather after only 31 overs, fortunately for the home side who had got off to a poor start on a pitch that favoured the bowlers. The Beechdale SAAB ECB Derbyshire Premier League representative team played the Shropshire Premier League today (Sunday) in the semi-final of the League Cricket Conference President's Trophy. The game at Chesterfield was one of the few in the county to commence, as the weather laid waste to the League programme and both Cup Finals. Shropshire won the toss and invited Derbyshire to bat, and the home side made a poor start on a pitch which helped the bowlers. Jamie Benstead and John Owen were both dismissed for ducks by Shimmons with only four on the board. Bill Bagshawe and Anthony Woolley staged a recovery, but runs were hard to come by, and Woolley departed for 26 with the score on 41 in the 24th over. Captain for the day Stuart Poplar came in and injected some urgency into proceedings, with 32 coming in the next seven overs, but then the rain came, leaving the match to be replayed in two weeks time in Shropshire, at a venue to be arranged.
