Cork injury mars Derbyshire victory An injury to Derbyshire skipper Dominic Cork spoiled an otherwise effortless victory over Durham in the second of the county's pre-season friendlies. Cork turned over his right ankle during a useful opening spell of bowling. Cork joins an every growing early season injury list which already includes Andrew Gait (hamstring) and Chris Bassano (shoulder), but the skipper is said to be "optimistic" of being fit in time for the start of competitive action on April 19th. In the match, Durham stuttered to 140 for 7 from their 45 overs after being left reeling at 25 for 5. Pick of the bowlers was new signing Jason Kerr (3 for 37) and Tim Munton (2 for 13). The meager Durham total was no match for a Derbyshire batting attack that mastered the breezy conditions well. Steve Stubbings (39), Rawait Khan (26) and James Pyemont (22 not out) saw the home side safely home by five wickets with 10 overs remaining. A significant improvement on their performance against Leicestershire and one that will bring hope to the county supporters after the last two dismal seasons. Derbyshire today started a two-day friendly against Worcestershire at the County Ground, Michael Di Venuto taking over the captaincy.
