Cup disappointment for Nottinghamshire again Yet again, Nottinghamshire sides failed to make a serious impression in the Derbyshire Building Society Premier Cup. Only five of the county's clubs progress to the next round. Kimberley Institute, Notts Unity Casuals, Southwell, Welbeck and West Indies Cavaliers came through the first round robin phase. Of the Derbyshire sides, only Wirksworth were eliminated. This must come as another major disappointment to the competition organising committee and the Nottinghamshire representatives. After last year's debacle where several teams showed no interest in the competition and others sent weakened sides, it was hoped that this year's competition would prove to be more acceptable to the Nottinghamshire sides. However, it looks as if this is not the case. Even readers of this site have little faith in their local sides. A massive 44% of voters in our recent poll believe that only two or three Nottinghamshire sides will progress to the quarter finals. 22% of those who voted reckon that just the one team will go forward to represent Nottinghamshire in the quarter finals. Is this a genuine representation of the state of Nottinghamshire Premier League cricket or are teams really showing only limited interest in the competition? If this is the case, why are Nottinghamshire sides taking this attitude?
