by Dennis Wright, 22nd June 2002

Woodborough wrote themselves in to the record books with a 298 run victory over 1G opponents Flintham. Simon Mellows 181 not out was the second highest score ever in the league.

With Paul Wilson (106) they put on 287 in their record score of 355/4. Bowler Paul Nightingale then, deciding not to be outshone, helped dismiss Flintham for 57 taking 7/30.

Another record fell in 2A as Southwell II Paul Thompson 112 and Adam Sedgwick 109 put on a club record 227 against Plumtree II. Another 200+ partnership in 2C as Lady Bay Boots Jawaid Maqbool 151* with Ajesh Naik 82 rattled up 250 runs in Boots total of 305/2. Calverton II were dismissed for 80.

Twelve centuries recorded in one weekend and with further scores in the 90's batsmen held the upper hand in the weekend's games. 14 year old Kris Seymour 96 for Stoke Bardolph II the pick. Whilst veteran David Groves of Lambley rolled back the years as his 6/15 helped beat Shepshed town.

All rounder's had a good day but none more prevalent than the 1B clash of Ellerslie and Nottingham. Nottingham batting first scored 212 with Adey Knowles hitting 96, while Ellerslie Imran Adil 4/103 tried to stem the flow. Ellerslie then took the game to Nottingham, with Adil's 46, but the spirited challenge met with Knowles in fine form with the ball taking 5/43. Nottingham's second win leaves Ellerslie firmly rooted at the bottom of 1B.

Rashid Ahmed 111 & 4/39 helped Lowdham to a nine wicket win over West Bridgford Legion. Whatton & Aslockton (198/5), Simon Goodwin 61* and 4/40 took the sting out of Beeston Siemans challenge (128). Roger Suttle of Nottingham Victoria 43* and 6/38 the highlight from 1H in their seven wicket win at Breaston (111).

In 1A Collingham (209/1) cemented their position at the top with a comfortable win over Eastwood Town (208/9) whose challenge has slipped with
consecutive defeats. Gedling Colliery (265/4), with Graham Burton hitting 100*, hold second spot with a winning draw over Attenborough (199/7) despite Granville Berry 105*. Danny Anderson 111 of Gotham (268/4) proved too much for a below par Plumtree (138). Radcliffe on Trent (196/2) improved their survival hopes with a win over now bottom Hucknall (193/9).

Calverton are surging ahead of the pack in 1B with a six wicket victory at home to Bramcote. Rolls Royce Leisure are run-a-way leaders of 1C as closest rivals Flowserve and Stanton by Dale both came unstuck. Risley, (221/5) maintained their unbeaten run against Ruddington (193), while Thurgarton (214), maintain 2nd spot beating Wilson (150). Hickling and Toton Sycamore both had wins to boost their hope of back-to-back promotions.

In 1F Edingley are well adrift of the pack and need a minor miracle if they are to stave of relegation. 1G saw home wins all the way along with a shock defeat for leaders West Bridgford (105), away to South Muskham (206/9).

Stapleford move top of 1H while Gary Dawson is cursing his luck, out for 99, in Stapleford's total of 180. Belton managed 124 in reply. Rainworth Welfare (188), were knocked off the top and into third spot as Aspley Park (211/9) moved into promotion places in a division that is tight between the top five.

In the 2nd XI competition Kimberley Institute beat Attenborough, and Clifton Village overcame Notts Amateurs as these two forge ahead of the rest. In 1B Notts. Unity Casuals 100% never came under threat as Long Eaton could only manage 81, a feat Unity passed for the loss of two wickets.

In 2C Bramcote, (134/1), victory over Old Paviors (131), pushed Paviors into the relegation spot previously held by Bramcote. Home wins in 2D meant that Kirkby Portland are still out in front and maintains their 100% record. Belvoir captain Paul Firth marshalled his young stalwarts well on a volatile Inham Nook, which saw their young keeper Dan Woodhead taken to hospital after a ball glanced his eyebrow, and needed 5 stitches. Toton Sycamore won by 35 runs to move second behind Long Whatton who had a nine wicket win away at Edingley II with Richard Freer taking 6/25.
