Welbeck cruise to Chad Cup triumph
by Alan Rowley, 22nd September 2003.

Welbeck strolled to victory in the final of the Chad Cup played at Mansfield Hosiery Mills ground on Sunday (21st). In the 30 overs a side game, Welbeck were comfortable six wicket winners.

Jonathan BallBatting first, Cuckney scored 111 for 7 thanks to 25 from Jamie Jevons and 23 from Matt Sangar. 15 year old Jonathon Ball was the star of the Welbeck bowling attack returning figures of 3 for 28.

In reply, Welbeck never looked in trouble, despite losing quick wickets towards the end. Malc Brown top scored with an impressive 43 including a succession of crushing boundaries. Brown was ably assisted by Mark Sills who contributed 26 to see Welbeck home to their first Chad Cup since 1993.

The man of the match award went to young Ball for his fine 8-over spell which removed three of the top four Cuckney batsmen at a time when Cuckney were looking to accelerate.
