Grainger resigns but it's business as usual
by Alan Rowley, 19th April 2003

John SmedleyDerbyshire CCC are claiming that it's business as usual at the County Ground following the resignation of Membership Secretary John Grainger. Chief Executive John Smedley (pictured left) yesterday said that "As far as the club is concerned the whole matter is now closed".

60-year-old Grainger was arrested by police on Tuesday and computer equipment, containing the club's membership database, was seized. The database was released to the club on Thursday and the club is now able to renew memberships. Any backlogs will be dealt with over the Bank Holiday.

Meanwhile, the club is playing down Grainger's arrest saying that it was a "personal matter for the individual concerned". They were quick to point out that Grainger was not arrested at the County Ground, as had been previously reported in the local press. The club say that the investigation "did not involve the club, only the computer used by Grainger during the course of his work".

Derbyshire police confirmed that "a 60-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged computer-related crime. He has been released on police bail without charge pending further inquiries."
