Macmillan nets a grand thanks to 'the follow on' Macmillan Cancer Relief has benefitted to the tune of £1,084 thanks to the generosity of this site's members and the players and supporters of Eastwood Town Cricket Club. When the last of the players sponsorship money from the Sting v Outlawed game was collected, treasurer Danny Parkin was able to make the transfer to the charity's account. The money was raised mainly at the charity match held at Eastwood Town Cricket Club on June 11th, but was boosted by collecting tins held at Marehay Cricket Club and the Great Northern pub in Langley Mill. The visit of Phil Tufnell and the npower 500 team was the highlight of the day and was the main reason for the charity event taking place. The final totals raised were as follows:
Clare Roberts, trek manager of the npower 500, told 'the follow on': "Thank you to everyone for all of your help during the npower500. We were delighted with the response from all of the clubs and very grateful for all of your fundraising. Phil really enjoyed visiting the local clubs and seeing all the effort you had put into everything."
Phil Tufnell (pictured) said after the game: "Macmillan Cancer Relief is a fantastic charity and I would like to thank you on their behalf for all your hard work". It would be unfair to single out anyone for special praise, but I would personally like to thank all the helpers at Eastwood Town Cricket Club and thank the local traders for their generosity. I would also like to say a big 'thank you' to all the players and to everyone who showed up on the day. Here's to next year!
