'the follow on' ready for the off
by Alan Rowley, 1st March 2004

After three months of planning, designing and coding, 'the follow on' is now complete and ready for the start of the 2004 season which is a little over six weeks away. Work to transfer everything over from the old SportNetwork sites has now been completed and those sites have been switched to 'test mode', effectively closing them down.

If you're new to the site, you will probably be looking for some idea of what is on offer. So here is a brief run down of the features the site holds.

The heart of the site is undoubtably the forum. To reach the forum, look in the navigational message bar at the top of every page on the site. Here, under the 'Forum' heading, you will find links to all nine message boards contained in the forum. The old Sting In The Tail and Outlawed message boards can be found here, along with boards for World cricket, match reports, announcements, classifieds and others. If your topic isn't cricket related, don't worry the 'Anything Goes' message board accepts posts on any non-cricket topic. The forum can be found here.

The news section not only has links to the Ananova, NewsNow and Moreover archives, but contains all the articles published on 'the follow on' and SportNetwork back to 2002. There is also a link to the local weather forecast so that you can plan your cricketing action five days ahead.

The fixtures section contains all the important local and county cricket dates and the statistics section features a wealth of stats going back to 2000. A joy for all the stattos! The image galleries feature all the images from SportNetwork and will be built upon as 'the follow on' establishes itself.

The 'Goodies' section contains many documents and features that will enhance your enjoyment of the site. Here you can read articles about our sponsors, buy goods on e-Bay, and read documents on the laws of the game, including the infamous Duckworth Lewis method.

The 'Calendar' function, click here, is fully interactive and users can add their own events to the calendar. The 'Postcard' feature allows users to send postcards free of charge to friends through the site. You don't even need an email account to use this feature. You can find postcards here.

The site also features a useful 'Links' section allowing quick access to league, cup and club sites. There are over 250 links to choose from, possibly the most comprehensive local cricket links collection on the web. If you're lost, the 'Help' section will guide you through.

As you explore the site, please be aware that we are looking for sponsors to enable us to pay for the running costs of the site. If you would like to find out what sponsorship can do for you, simply email alan@thefollowon.com for more details.

Why not make 'the follow on' your homepage so that you're only a mouse click away from the site? Full details are here.
