Umpires refresher course at Hasland

The greatest game that has ever been invented, Cricket, will be with us once again in a month’s time and the wonderful sound of a cricket ball being thrashed to the boundary will be heard once again all over this green and pleasant land.

With this in mind all umpires whether they are seasoned campaigners or newcomers to the job are cordially invited to attend a two week refresher course on Monday’s 11 th and 18 th of April just in time for the new season.

There is a distinct shortage of officials in our local leagues and any former players or people who simply have a love for the game are most welcome to attend this course which will be held at the New Inn at Winsick, Hasland.

Take my advice if you have played the game it is still good to be involved once that time has caught up with you necessitating retirement from the great game. Alright many players still follow their local sides about watching the game but once you have been out in the middle it is believe me the only place to be and umpiring is most enjoyable as you can see a match unfolding in front of you.

It is a part of the game where you earn the respect of the players as well as stamping your authority on the game by interpreting the laws correctly.

Gerry Graney and John Heaman will be there to run through the laws of the game and these two excellent umpires will make you feel at home and for any newcomers will make you wish you had started even earlier.

Don’t forget this great game of ours needs more umpires in all our local leagues. Do your bit for the game and attend these courses and have a go in the middle. I guarantee one thing; you will wish you had started before.
