Star game for Cuckney For people who love cricket (and who doesn’t) a game is scheduled for Friday 23rd June at Langwith Road, Cuckney to whet the appetite of even the most ardent sceptic. It is a fund raising match which has been arranged by the Cuckney Club and will be between a Cuckney Chairman’s XI and an Old England XI. The match will get under way at 3.00 p.m. and everyone is welcome to this picturesque ground and the Old England side is a complete glossary of names that trip of the tongue and have been legends in the not too distant past. In addition to the match the bar will open all through the day and food is available also. What more could anyone ask for? The Old England XI will be visiting Nottinghamshire for the very first time and the event is avidly awaited. The team will be selected from and just look at this list. John Lever (Capt., Essex), Keith Fletcher (Essex), Jim Love (Yorkshire), David Capel (Northants), Clive Radley (Middlesex), Roger Tolchard (Leicester), Robin Hobbs (Essex), Geoff Humpage (Warwickshire), Joey Benjamin (Surrey), Bobby Parks (Sussex), Geoff Cook (Northants) and John Hardy (Gloucester). The team manager will be the ex Sussex and England wicket-keeper Jim Parks. The Cuckney Chairman’s XI will include several guest players with Mark Fell (ex Farnsfield and Retford) and Iain O’Brien (Glapwell) both confirming their availability. If ever an event deserved support this is the one. Lets hope that the Cuckney club get a fine day and the bumper crowd their enterprise deserves.
