Welch testimonial match this Monday at Cutthorpe After a successful day last year, Cutthorpe Cricket Club are putting on another testimonial match for ex-Derbyshire skipper Graham Welch this Monday 13th August. Last years event for Kevin Dean was a major success and the Cutthorpe club are hoping for another huge turnout this year. Welch has been a tremendous servant to the club and it is so disappointing that his career has had to be cut short by serious injury earlier in the season. He is without question one of the most popular of Derbyshire’s recent players and deserves the support of everyone for the efforts he has given the club since his arrival. The match will be of the popular 20/20 duration and the Derbyshire side will be led by Australian test star Simon Katich. Cutthorpe will have a sprinkling of guest players and will be keen to repeat the victory they pulled off last year when Asadullah Butt had such a tremendous all-round match. Admission to the match will be £2.00 which includes a souvenir programme of the game. Children will be admitted free and the whole event will be held on Cutthorpe’s Recreation Ground at the side of the Three Merry Lads Inn. The game will commence at 5.30 p.m. but the side shows which includes a Bouncy Castle, Children’s Rides plus a Barbecue, Raffle and a six-hitting competition will all get under way from 4.00 p.m. There is also free parking on the Recreation Ground. Last year saw a crowd of around 400 there and it is hoped that they can better even that impressive figure. Everyone is welcome to this extravaganza and the match will be sponsored by S. Wallis (Accountants).
