Welbeck stage Paul Franks benefit dinner and cricket match
by Alan Rowley, 21st April 2007

The Warsop Sporting Trust are hosting a fundraising dinner and Twenty20 cricket match in aid of Cancer Research UK on Bank Holiday Monday May 7th 2007. The event is part of Paul Franks' benefit year and will be held at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, home of Welbeck Colliery Cricket Club and Market Warsop Football Club.

Paul FranksPaul Franks (pictured right), was born in Farnsfield, and has been a wonderful servant to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, winning one England cap on his home ground at Trent Bridge in 2000 against the West Indies. He has also has been a great contributor to local cricket, still turning out for his beloved Farnsfield in the Bassetlaw League.

This event is being supported by the Warsop Sporting Trust and is a fantastic opportunity to support a local lad and also enjoy the company of a number of the Nottinghamshire County players.  There will be a question and answer session after dinner which is likely to be a lively affair as the participants feature David Graveney, England Chairman of Selectors, Chris Read, England Wicket Keeper, Paul Franks and a number of others.

The Twenty20 game will be between a Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club Representative XI and a Welbeck Colliery Select XI. The game starts at 3:00pm and is preceded by a Kwik Cricket demonstration which commences at 2:00pm.

Pre dinner drinks are available from 6:30pm, with dinner being served at 7:30pm. There is a lounge suits dress code.

Tickets cost £30 per head or £300 per table of ten and cheques should be made payable to 'The Warsop Sporting Trust' and sent to Darren Bicknell c/o John Fretwell Sporting Complex, Sookholme Road, Sookholme, Mansfield, NG19 8LL.
