Morton Colliery Cricket Club scoop £10,000 grant Morton Colliery Cricket Club are delighted to announce they have been awarded a £10,000 grant by Awards For All, a subsidiary of the National Lottery. The grant will go towards funding the building of a new, state of the art, two lane artificial practice and net facility at the ground, which is likely to cost in the region of £20,000. The club are now busy pursuing extra funding through other grants and fundraising activities. This new facility will be another major addition to the club’s ever expanding facilities and has been a long term project which has taken several months of hard work and careful planning by Morton’s committee in bringing the project to fruition. Other recent ventures undertaken by Morton have seen them invest in new lightweight roll on covers along with a compound to store them, the building of an enclosed patio and viewing area next to the pavilion and a new ride on tractor mower to help aid the groundstaff.
Morton have a thriving club, social and playing membership and over the winter added a second Under 15 team, along with a Sunday league team, made up mostly of U18 players, to compliment its existing two senior league teams, U15, U13 and two U11 teams. The new nets will be used on practice nights by the senior players aswell as the seventy or so junior players aged between eight and sixteen who train on Wednesday nights under the supervision of the club’s qualified coaches. Work is scheduled to start first week in July and is expected to take approximately two weeks. In charge of the building work will be Lee Spendlove Sports Supply of Derby. A further announcement will be made by the club at a later date regarding a Grand Opening.
