Wanted - new cricket clubs and umpires First established in 1969 with only ten teams, The Yorkshire and Derbyshire Cricket League continues to expand, now boasting 52 teams in 5 divisions between Stocksbridge in the north and Stanton-in-the-Peak in the Derbyshire Peak District to the south. The League is now accepting applications from Clubs for the 2009 season, which will be its 40th anniversary year. Clubs will be placed at a level appropriate to their relevant standard and can expect to play at some of the most picturesque grounds in the country. The League also seeks umpires for the 2008 season and beyond. Fees for 2008 are £25 per match and this will rise to £30 per match in 2009. Full training and support is provided, with the opportunity to gain recognised national qualifications should you wish. League President David Griffiths said "The YDCL offers cricket to Clubs at all levels, whilst ensuring that the game is played as it should be played. The ethos of the League is simple - competitive cricket on the field and sporting comradeship off it. Clubs can expect a warm welcome and the chance to play at some beautiful grounds in and around Sheffield, Chesterfield and the Peak District." If you are a Club that would like a new challenge or would like to start up another team, or an Umpire looking for a change of scenery, contact the League Secretary, Iain Mallett on 07976 597756 or via email at iain@imallett.orangehome.co.uk or alternatively visit our website at www.yorksderby.play-cricket.com.
