Cutthorpe stage benefit match for Stubbings The Recreation Ground at Cutthorpe should be a hive of activity this Monday 19th May when the annual match between a Derbyshire XI will take place for long serving Steve Stubbings benefit. Cutthorpe have held a match at their ground for the County beneficiary for the last two years, in 2006, Kevin Dean was the recipient whilst last year it was for Graham Welch.
Pro4 Sport and Brampton Manor will sponsor the match and the Cutthorpe club are most grateful to these two companies for the generous support that they have given to the match. Stubbings has scored 1000 runs and over for Derbyshire on several occasions and joined the club in 1997. Through a difficult period for the County he has proved to be one of the more consistent players and in 2001 won the award as their player of the year. Steve was born in Huddersfield in 1978 but was raised and educated in Australia. He is a strong tall powerful left-hander and his benefit year has been well earned and it is hoped that a good crowd will once again adorn the recreation ground. The bar will be open throughout the match and admission will be £2.00 with children free. In addition there will be bouncy castles, a penalty shootout, barbecue, ice cream plus hot dogs and hamburgers. Everyone is welcome and if you have not visited one of these nights before they truly are most enjoyable and something nobody would want to miss. The ground is at the back of the Three Merry Lads Public House and car parking is free also. The fun all begins from 5.00 p.m. onwards.
