YDCL launch new Saturday 20/20 competition The Sheaf Sports Yorkshire & Derbyshire Cricket league are pleased to announce the launch of the Winston Cup. The Winston Cup is an innovative 20/20 competition which will see all clubs in the league compete. We believe we are the only league in the country to dedicate Saturdays to such a cup competition. The competition is named in honour of Brain Winston who was fundamental in setting up and maintaining the league. He also spent many years involved with Hathersage Cricket Club as player, committee member and umpire. The first round of the competition will see ten grounds, (Holmesfield CC, Sheffield Transport CC, Apperknowle CC, Chesterfield Barbarians CC, HSBC Sports Ground, SWD CC, Baslow CC, Stocksbridge CC, Hundall CC & De La Salle CC), host three clubs in a round robin tournament on Saturday 21st June. The winners will progress to round two where four grounds will host three clubs in a round robin tournament on Saturday 19th July. It is only fitting that the setting for the finals day will be Hathersage Cricket Club as this was more or less Brian’s second home. The date for this is Saturday 13th September and will see four clubs competing in the semi finals with the winners playing in the final. Hathersage CC has assured us they are going to make this a great day and it would be difficult to find a more quaint ground in the area. Any companies or individuals wishing to sponsor the finals day or for further information please contact Adam Green, the league’s Publicity Officer on adamski72@hotmail.co.uk.
