Derbyshire County Cricket League report - 09/09/01 Abbey Glass Division 1 Sawley 174-7 beat Spondon 96 by 78 runs This win dispels the taunt that Sawley are a one man team.They were without Ahmed Gondal but came out tops against Spondon who have been challenging them. Kenny Wilson (36) and Sean Polley (37 not out) were their main scorers, and Richard Lawton (3-16) and Neil Smith (3-26) bowled well. For Spondon Zak Hussain took 4-35. Clifton 216-7 beat Mickleover 75 by 139 runs Mickleover have had a tough time in this strong Division, and they were no match for Clifton who move above Spondon in second place. Kamran Afzaal made 107 not out in Clifton's score with Roger Jones adding 31. For Mickleover Chris Bolton took 3-45 and Andy Evans 3-52, and for Clifton Umar Zamman took 4-20 and Simon Moore 3-10. Abbey Glass Division 2 Rolleston 191-8 lost to Selston Town 193-7 by 3 wickets Rolleston have had a good season in this League, and they competed well against Selston Town who are confirmed as Champions of this Division with this win. Paul Allen made 74 and Sean Green 69 for Rolleston, with Selston'd Ian Wood taking 4-64. Selston's winning run came with three balls to go, with Gary Forbes on 32 and Gary Staples 38. Marehay 214-4 declared drew with Nutbrook 119-5 Marehay batted well, with good knocks from Adrian Vickerage (86 not out), Gareth Buckley (33 not out) and Andy Walters (30). Nutbrook were well short, but Alex Mace was 61 not out, and for Marehay John Grimadell took 3-27. Brailsford 170-9 beat Swarkestone 153 by 17 runs This was the relegation battle and Brailsfords victory keeps them up and forces Swarkestone down. Young James Dakin had a good match for Brailsford, scoring 59 and taking 3-26. Jamie Guthrie battled well for Swarkestone, making 58, but to no avail. Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A Denby 2nds 188-9 drew with Little Eaton 178-8 These two sides have been close to each other all season and so it remained to the end, but the winning draw confirms Denby as the Division Champions. Simon Mann made 67 and Steve Lee 32 for Denby and Martin Krause took 4-41 for Little Eaton.. Little Eaton came close to Denby's score with 42 from Paul Dolby and 36 from John Smedley. For Denby Gary Cresswell took 4-47 and Dave Cope 3-45.
