Derbyshire County Cricket League report - 25/08/01 Abbey Glass Division 1 Sawley 191-9 beat Ticknall 32 by 159 runs There's no stopping Sawley now, with a lead of 57 points and three matches to go. Ticknall's bowlers competed well to confine Sawley to 191, with Nathan Harding taking 4-47. For Sawley John Birch contributed 54, Ahmed Gondal 52 and Ken Wilson 39. Ticknall's batsmen succumbed, like many others, to the pace and accuracy of Ahmed Gondal, who took 6-11 and they could only muster 32. Spondon 208-6 beat Clifton 204 by 4 wickets Yet again Spondon have beaten Clifton, and this defeat puts paid to Clifton's championship hopes for this season. Skipper Simon Moore played his part well enough, scoring 80 and taking 3-49. Stuart Apanasewicz chipped in with 37 and 204 seemed a decent score, but Zak Hussain (53) and David Tainton (57) steered Spondon to victory. Morton 244-3 beat Shipley Hall 243-9 by 7 wickets On a pitch made for batsmen Matt Abbott of Shipley was one short of his century when he was out to a stunning catch Shipley's total would have been a winning score on most days, but this Morton side is packed with batting and Scott Phillips and John Aspinall set up the win in a stand worth 148 for the third wicket in 18 overs. Phillips made 123 and Aspinall was 58 not out. Phillips also took 3-50 and Nigel Mallinder 4-48.. Morton had nine overs left in the end. Belper Meadows 184-5 beat Elvaston 183-9 by 5 wickets With their minds on the Semi Final of the National Village Cup Elvaston were not at their best and suffered their seventh loss of the season. Simon Thompson (79) and Richard Johnson (31) were the top scorers for Elvaston, with Carl Parkin taking 4-22 for Belper. Two players stood out in the Belper reply, Amsey Hosein with 77 and Dave Haliday with 88, whilst Ian Hall took 3-55 for Elvaston. Mickleover 136 lost to Lullington Park 166 by 30 runs Lullington batted first and were confined to a manageable score by Chris Bolton (4-33) and Matt Spencer (3-50).. Scott Cameron was Lullington's top scorer with 39. For Mickleover Anthony Wagstaffe scored 34, but their batting let them down. Jamie Shales took 3-26 for Lullington. West Hallam 145-9 lost to Staveley Welfare 147-3 by 7 wickets Young James Chapman made 42 for West Hallam, but their total wasn't enough. Their defeat owed much to the May family, David took 4-32, and in the Staveley innings Paul made 30 and John was 48 not out. Abbey Glass Division 2 Selston Town 250-9 tied with Allestree 250-8 Selston Town are still top of this Division, but their lead over Marehay has been cut to three points. Their success so far has been achieved with only five wins as opposed to ten wins by Marehay. With three games to go the title is wide open, but these two sides are certainties for promotion. Allestree gave them a good game, thanks to good knocks from Chris Ruck (36), Albert Eicholzer (38) and Andy Layton (86). A good spell from Selston's Ian Wood yielded 5-87. In Selston's reply Chris Dunn made 61, Gareth Forbes 54 and John Barnett 40. Sandiacre Town 2nds 115 lost to Marehay 116-4 by 6 wickets Sandiacre were weakened by first team calls, but Steve Brown was again in good form, making 53. John Longden took 3-20 for Marehay. Danny Parkin made 48 in Marehay's reply and Simon Bloor took 3-34. Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A Little Eaton 222-8 drew with Ambergate 177-7 After a recent lean spell Little Eaton showed some form in gaining a winning draw against Ambergate. Tom Wilton was 100 not out and Paul Sinclair 33 in Little Eaton's score, with Imran Ullah taking 4-66. Ullah was soon in action with the bat, scoring a rapid 59. Nadeem Tariq added 35 and Joe Beveridge 34 not out, but they were well short at the close. Andy Jeffery took 3-35 for Little Eaton. Tibshelf 80 lost to Denby 2nds 204-9 by 124 runs This was aneasy win for Denby, with Simon Mann playing a big part. He scored 78 and took 5-35. Matt Spencer bowled well for Tibshelf, taking 3-45, and Dave Cope took 3-24 for Denby. Denby are just two points behind Little Eaton and could easily overtake them in the final three games. However, both Little Eaton and Denby look certainties for promotion.
