Derbyshire Premier League report - 08/09/01 Ockbrook 193-3 beat Chesterfield 192-9 by 7 wickets Chesterfield batted first and after a shaky start posted a decent score. Mark Zimmer made 38 and Richard Joy 34. Duncan Player took 3-64 for Ockbrook and after they had lost three early wickets Nigel Sulley and Johnny Owen soon dispelled any anxiety by taking control of the bowling. Nigel Sulley has been in prime form since he returned to help out the batting and was top scorer with 82 and Owen at his best made 71.With the 20 points gained Ockbrook remain top, but they are closeley followed by Dunstall and Denby. Dunstall 198-8 beat Langley Mill 189 by 9 runs If Dunstall expected this to be an easy win they had a rude awakening. They batted well to reach 198-8 in the 50th over, and were confident enough to declare, leaving themselves 55 overs to bowl out the Millers. Danny Spasic was their top scorer with 69, and Ron Patel took 3-42. The plan seemed to be working when wickets began to tumble, and at 93-9 in the 31st over it seemed all over, but there is some strong back bone in this Langley Mill side, and two of the old campaigners, Andrew Ball and Ken Smith, stood firm and grafted a partnership which yielded 96 runs for the tenth wicket, falling short by only 9 runs. Smith made 31 and Ball was 85 not out. For Dunstall Martin Clewley took 5-68 and Steve Scrimshaw 3-49. This win puts Dunstall within six points of Ockbrook at the top. Denby 246-8 declared drew with Wirksworth 202-5 Batting first Denby had their sights on the 27 points which would have enabled them to share the lead. Their batsmen responded with a big total and they declared after 54 overs. Peter Scott made 54 and Ian Burgoyne 57 and for Wirksworth Adnan Naeem took 3-40. It didn't help Denby's cause when two catches were dropped early on, but generally the bowling lacked penetration and Wirksworth looked confident in playing out time and reaching a total which brought them enough points to take them out of the relegation zone. Ilkeston Rutland 222-4 beat Stainsby Hall 221-9 by 6 wickets The game brought credit to both sides. Stainsby fought hard and reached a challenging score, with Danny Walton scorong 49 and Rob Wood 62, Ian Banks produced a good spell for Ilkeston, taking 4-38. For the second week running Martin Brandrick played a captain's part, opening the innings and making 71 not out, assisted by Aussie Jason Kelly who contributed a vital 89. They were home with 2.4 overs to spare. Damien Collard bowled his heart out for Stainsby, taking 4-38. Quarndon 253-5 lost to Alvaston & Boulton 258-7 by 2 wickets These two teams had little to play for except pride, but it was an excellent game. Some good batting from man of the match Billy Bagshaw (84), Robin Williamson (58) and Phil Robinson (45) saw Quarndon reach a formidable total. A&B responded with the confidence which brought them the title last year. Anthony Woolley was back to his best form with the bat, scoring 79 and with Adie West adding 62 and Gary Smith 30 they reached their target with 3 overs to spare. For Quarndon skipper Mark Tournier took 5-58.
