Calverton suffer rare defeat In the Gunn & Moore South Notts League, top-of-the table Calverton (157) suffered a rare defeat. Long Eaton's Umar Hussan (8/62) ripped through Calverton's batting order, denying them any chance of getting the 225 they needed for victory. Hassan had already contributed 59 of Long Eaton's 224/7. Overall, though, batsmen probably had the best of the day. Malinda Warnapura blasted to 102 in 77 balls to steer Balderton (188/6) past the 187/8 set by bottom-of-the-table Gotham Village. The next biggest score in 1A was Julian Richardson's 96 for Loughborough Carillon (229/6), which together with a solid 60 from James Townrow, set up a winning draw against Attenborough (167/8). Humaj Gondal (75) and Dave Mason (47) helped Gedling Colliery (238/6) to victory over Radcliffe-on-Trent (237/8) despite scores of 60+ for Radcliffe's James Hawley and Rob Sutton. Plumtree set a total of 229/8, contributed to by Ranjit Bhabra (63) and Richard Moore (61) and defended by Peter Jacka (4/39), to gain a winning draw over Eastwood Town (128/7). In the 1B clash between Newstead Abbey & Village and Nottingham 530 runs were scored. Home side, Newstead, put on 310/9, with Steve Daykin getting 121 and James Easom 60. Nottingham's Matthew Lyas (97) and Simon Brookes (83*) fought back but their side finished on 220/2 with a losing draw. Notts Amateurs suffered their first defeat of the season on a day when Majid Saeed was out for a duck. Saeed (4/33) and Martin Rayner (5/32) had kept opponents Belvoir to a fairly modest 173 but Amateurs saw their innings collapse to 105 all out courtesy of Dan Greengrass (5/25) and Dan Barrett (3/24). Bramcote and Hucknall share 6th place in 1B following Bramcote's (239/7) winning draw over Hucknall (193/9). Chief contributors for Bramcote were Con Griffin (69) and Dave Green (58) with the bat, and bowler Jeff Green with 4/63. For Hucknall, Kevin Pearson took 5/76 and Andy Wagstaff scored 66. Rolls Royce Leisure (184) remain 2nd in the table after a win against Gedling & Sherwood (142), while Stanton-by-dale are rooted to the bottom after losing by 74 runs away at Bottesford (230/8). Top of 1C, Thrumpton (144/8) suffered a defeat at the hands of Risley (148/2), lifting Risley from the base of the table. Keyworth now take bottom spot, having only managed 80 in reply to Newark's 228/5, which included a century from Robert Taylor. Wilsons player Imran Khan contributed with bat and ball (4/33 and 58*) as his side passed Kirkby Portland's total of 158 with 6 wickets to spare. The closest game in 1C was between West Bridgfordians and Old Paviors. Neil Dudley scored 47 of W Bridgfordians' 155/9 as Jason Sharpe and Kevin Davies of Paviors took 3 wickets apiece. Paviors went into bat, Steve Todd scoring 47, but wickets fell partly thanks to 4/24 from Alan Mclaughlin, and they finished 2 runs short. Hickling (171/6) remained top of 1D beating Beeston (168/9) by 4 wickets. Lady Bay Boots and Awsworth maintained their second and third spots, beating Underwood and Toton Sycamore respectively. Wymeswold's (203/6) victory over Farndon (202/6) moved them up to 4th place, Andy Duckmanton contributing 93 of the losing side's total. In their clash at Whatton & Aslockton (69/5), Nuthall were all out for 66. It was never a big enough total to defend, even with the best efforts of 12 year old Adam Fisher who took 3/27. Another bowler performing well but ending on the losing side was Ruddington's Paul Picton. He took all 6 of the Willoughby-on-the-Wolds' wickets that fell before they passed Ruddington's score of 137. Ruddington had fallen victim to Ben Boot (5/31). There were two five wicket hauls in the 1E match between East Leake and Ravenshead. First, Julian Tadd (5/28) and Nigel Aston (4/34) limited East Leake to 134, then Steve Oakley (5/34) and Keith Oxspring (3/25) helped skittle out Ravenshead for 113. Tony Newby's 93 was a valuable contribution to Cotgrave's total of 207/6 but with team-mate Richard Burdett taking 6/18 such a high total wasn't needed. West Bridgford were all out for 57. It was worse still in 1G, as Richard Durham took 6/16 for Welby (201/8), who bowled out Shepshed Town for 28. In 1H, Martin Radcliffe took 7/37 defending Belton's score of 274/7 (including 92 from Lindsey Wainwright) against Poplars (137). Other performances of note were Glen Morley's 117* for Lambley (197/6) in their game with Sutton Bonnington (215/6), and Mick Bowen's 6/27 for Stapleford (119), who were beaten by Gladstone (159).
