Pilsley coast through in Tomlins Despite threatening rain clouds Pilsley managed to see off the challenge of Anston in the first round of this year’s Tomlins Trophy at Barlow Hill on Sunday. Batting first Anston were limited to a rather modest 111 for 7 when their 40 overs were completed. Peter Carter (35) and Nick Carter (34) were the only Anston batsmen to shine as the Pilsley attack kept a tight rein on affairs. David Wright was the best of a steady and rather tidy attack taking 2 for 13 in an excellent spell of bowling. This target proved no contest as Pilsley coasted to a ten wicket win with Andy Keighley (22 n.o.) gave excellent support to the swashbuckling talents of Pakistani star Said Bin Nasir who rattled up a fabulous unbeaten 83 to guide his side to victory. Bin Nasir has started the season in the same vein that he has showed over the past two years at Pilsley and there can be no doubting the fact that many more sides will suffer from the blade of this brilliant batsman before the end of the season. Pilsley face the daunting prospect of a trip to Cutthorpe in Round 2. At Barlow Hill ANSTON 111 for 7 (Peter Carter 35, Nick Carter 34, David Wright 2 for 13) lost to PILSLEY 112 for 0 (Andy Keighley 22 n.o., Said Bin Nasir 83 n.o.) by ten wickets
