End of season friendly for 'the follow on'
by Alan Rowley, 14th September 2004

After the success of last year’s Monsters game and the Phil Tufnell charity match earlier this season, ‘the follow on’ breaks new ground on Saturday with our first friendly match. Derbyshire County League side Langley Mill play hosts to a side which combines players from both ‘Outlawed’ and ‘Sting In The Tail’ for the first ever time. Weather permitting, it should be a great way to bring down the curtain on the 2004 season.

The Millers teaThe Millers are rapidly gaining a reputation of being one of the most sociable clubs in the area, especially where teas are concerned (see picture left). What the club lacks on the field is more than made up for in the pavilion, and ‘the follow on’ side have been promised a D.B.T., or a Dog’s Bollocks Tea. Supporters needn’t worry, there is always more than enough to go around.

The match starts at 1:30pm and will be 40 overs a side. The bar will be open before, during and after the game when the club will be looking to reduce their bar stocks for the close season. Carling, Carling Premier and Worthington are available on draught, along with a large selection of bottled ‘real’ ales. A word of warning though, only the more hardened drinkers should attempt the ‘Owd Rodger’.

‘the follow on’ side won’t be lacking in experience with the Premier Leagues, the South Notts, the Bassetlaw and the County League all being represented. Players will be making the journey to the Mill from as far afield as Cutthorpe and Newark . It won’t be a walk over for ‘ the follow on’ though as Langley Mill feature some guest players in their line-up.

With seven months of hibernation in front of us, why not head for the Mill and join us for an end of season celebration? Admission, obviously, is free and there is plenty of room behind the pavilion where the kids can play safely. Don’t forget to persuade the missus to drive home.

If you can’t make the game, you will be most welcome at the ground in the evening. It looks like we’re in for a late night. See you on Saturday!
