Wainwright hat-trick crucial for De La Salle A Sam Wainwright hat-trick earned De La Salle a crucial victory over rivals Old Edwardians / Collegiate at the top of Division One. De La Salle were dismissed for 171 (Seal 4-37). Wainwright (4-22) claimed the last three wickets of the innings to see Old Eds all out for 129 (Hardy 54). Old Eds fall to fourth place, twenty one points off the lead, but with a game in hand. De La Salle are now thirteen points ahead of second placed Hundall, who were held to the draw by already-relegated Baslow. Hundall declared on 195-5 (Tim Oldman 52, Martin Dawson 55) but saw Baslow close out comfortably on 140-6. Just one point behind Hundall, in third place, are Sheffield Works Department. They made their declaration at 209-4 (Richard Everitt 86 no, John Woods 68) against Centralians, who replied with 116-7 (Dan Stow 47 no). At the foot of the table, University Staff continue to battle against joining Baslow in Division Two next season. They could only manage 105-7 (Dave Needham 64) in reply to Stanton's 154-9 (Anthony Gladwin 41) and desperately need some victories in their last four games. Ashford made 209-3 (Patrick Foster 61, Julian Henson 87) at Parkhead, who replied with 209-9 (Altaf Junaid 70, Patrick Foster 4-69), being Parkhead's second tie in as many weeks. Jimmy Pearson made 54 in Holmesfield's 148-6 as Hathersage were bowled out for 93. Chesterfield Barbarians head the battle to join Calver in Division One. They made 142 (R.Marshall 4-41) away at Stocksbridge II, who capitulated for just 65 (Martin Roberts 4-16). Twelve points behind are Stocksbridge I. They compiled 146-6 at Bakewell, who attained the draw at 130-6. A return of thirteen points or more in their final game will see Chesterfield Barbarians gain the final promotion spot ahead of Stocksbridge I. SWD II were bowled out for 112 (M.Burley 44, K.Rowney 4-47, J.Watson 4-25), which was passed by relegated Hathersage II with three men to spare (J.Thompson 4-32).
Dronfield Woodhouse are the champions of Division Three. They posted 197-6 (Richard Barnsley 75 no) at BT Pensions / AGD, who held on for the draw at 112-9 (Phil Purnell 44). Both the second and third placed sides suffered from abandoned games at the weekend and so the final promotion place will be decided on Saturday. Centralians II play host to BT Pensions / AGD, hoping to maintain their eight point advantage over Laycocks, who in turn play host to De La Salle II. At the weekend, De La Salle II were bowled out for 72 (Mark Wilmott 4-32, Steve Brocklehurst 5-34) by Richland Wanderers, who won by three wickets. The final relegation place will be decided by the game between Old Edwardians / Collegiate II and Calow. On Saturday, Old Eds II were bowled out for 112 (Allender 5-41) in reply to Hundall II's 182-9 (Allender 47) and need at least a maximum points victory to have any chance of overtaking the North Derbyshire side. The Division Four promotion situation still remains in the balance. Ridgeway continue to lead the way. They bowled Stocksbridge III out for 131 (B.Newton 48, G.Jones 49, K.Roberts 5-55, L.Keys 5-51) and gained a six wicket win (K.Roberts 63). Transport hold on to second place. On Sunday, they made 208-9 (John Maiden 45, Garth Lewis 49) against Zingari, who countered with 122-6 (N.Gul 4-24). Millhouses II registered 162 all out (Searle 48, Sanderson 56, Cowles 4-18) and skittled Chesterfield Barbarians II for just 64 (Parry 6-21) to stay in third. BT Pensions / AGD II compiled 158-6 at Great Longstone and cruised to a 72 run victory. The Saturday games between Zingari and Dronfield Sports and Coal Aston and Baslow II fell victim to waterlogged grounds.
