Cutthorpe beat Bolsover in Tomlins clash
by Paul Barker, 3rd July 2005

Tomlins Trophy – Quarter Finals

A well contested match at the Recreation Ground saw Cutthorpe get the better of Bolsover by four wickets in their long awaited quarter-final clash.

Cutthorpe won the toss and put Bolsover in to bat and after a nervous start they settled down chiefly through some mighty hammer blows by Steve Wooley who made an excellent 59 before being run out. Bolsover went on to register 166 all out and although this score looked quite useful against the powerful Cutthorpe side it hardly looked adequate enough.

Asadullah Butt led the Cutthorpe bowling attack taking 3 for 23 in a very impressive spell and good work was also achieved by Andy Knowles 2 for 41 and Steve Chapman 2 for 45.

It was obvious right from the start that Cutthorpe really fancied this and some searing blows to the boundary by Andy Thompson (30) and John McCollum (31) soon had them right on top. Asadullah Butt completed the job with a superb unbeaten 46 and despite good efforts from Usman Saeed (2 for 22) and Steve Wooley (2 for 41) Cutthorpe sailed into the semis in just 35.3 overs.

Bolsover can now concentrate fully on getting back their place in Division 1 something they should achieve easily. They were perhaps unfortunate to be drawn against Cutthorpe who are still an extremely potent force who are not out of the championship race in Division 1 by a long way yet.
