Notts Over 45s finish successful season in style Nottinghamshire Indoor Over 45s rounded off a successful season with a 6-1 points win over Derby O45’s. Going into their final game Notts knew a 7-0 victory would give them the British Indoor Cricket Association over 45s title. The 6 points secured means that closest rivals, Stumps of Birmingham, must take maximum points against both Derby O45s, at Wellingborough, and Ipswich O45s, at Derby O45s lost the toss and were immediately under attack as the first pair managed only -9. More excellent fielding and bowling saw a similar result as the second pair scored -26. A slight recovery of 13 from the third pair and a brave innings of 32 from the final pair left an overall total of 9. In reply, Ian Buckley (Chucks) and Trevor White lost a few wickets on the way to scoring 13 for the first skin. Retiring organiser, David Groves, along with the man taking over the role, Dennis Wright, turned in their best batting performance of 35 with no wickets. The ever impressive Nick Walton (leading run scorer) and Dave Lee turned in a massive 42 despite a few wickets lost to set up a nail biting four overs for the final pair.
Could they chase the 33 required to give maximum points and the championship? Skipper Steve Alford and Keith Marrow had brought the side to victory in tight matches before, and set off in the same manner. However all did not go to plan as wickets fell and the required run rate became greater. With two overs to go, 28 runs were still needed. Unfortunately the pressure for big shots brought more wickets and the final skin was lost. League table as at 12th March 2005
