Cowboys win game of the night
by Steve Spencer, 13th October 2006

Last season's Sunday champions Thoresby Park started the new campaign well with a hefty 78 run victory over MGT. Blidworth easily made the 67 required to beat Pilsley, and last season's bottom team Bawtry played well to beat Woodsetts by 4 wickets. The game of the night was Cuckney Cowboys scoring at 10 an over to knock off Clownes very useful 139 for 3 total with five balls to spare.

Congratulations to new side Killamarsh on winning the Bassetlaw division one title and Tomlins cup double, and no one could blame their senior players from having a breather and fielding a very youthful indoor team. Their opponents, local rivals Kiveton Park, took to the indoor like a duck to water amassing the highest score of the night with 157 for 3 then bowling out Killamarsh for 90 to win by 67 runs.

Monday’s league started with a high scoring encounter between Langold (122 for 6) losing to Edwinstowe (125 for 3) by 4 wickets. The other Wednesday League side making the step up to Mondays was Barmy Army who looked to be heading for victory over Glapwell before a late fight back saw off the Army challenge just seven runs short of victory. Andy Stephenson was last man out for a fine 44.

Another batsman on good form was play-off champions L Carlisle smashing 4 sixes on his way to 46 not out out of Tea Bags 139 total. Thoresby Park, the third new side in this league, were never i n the hunt and finished on 90 for 5. The Mafia can beat anyone on their day but tend to have too many games when nothing goes right, this being one as they flopped to 59 all out giving Clumber Park few problems, taking just 8.3 overs in getting to 60 for 3

Shirebrook are my tip to take the Wednesday League this season, and they started well with a six wicket win over a  Done & Dusted side that consists of  Mansfield & Pleasley juniors, who despite only being able to muster 53 for 6, bowled and fielded very well, taking over 10 overs for Shirebrook to reach the modest total.

Bilsthorpe have re entered the league after a gap of three years and got off to the worst possible start being dismissed for just 27, but any thoughts of a stroll to victory were soon dismissed as Shireoaks lost four quick wickets before recovering to save their blushes, winning by three wickets. Cuckney Terriers got the better of local rivals Tricky Trees and Blyth won a tight game with Walesby by 17 runs. Can I ask all captains and players to make sure the final total of runs and wickets are filled in as my code breaking skills are not too good, and put first names to any players with outstanding performances? Cheers - Steve.
