Kiveton win no fluke as Cowboys are shot down
by Steve Spencer, 20th October 2006

Kiveton Park showed last week's win over Killamarsh was no fluke, this week beating highly fancied Cuckney Cowboys by 10 runs in a thrilling encounter. There were easy wins for Blidworth, Thoresby Park and Pilsley, Clowne bounced back after last week's defeat beating ever improving Bawtry by a narrow 14 run margin.

On Monday, close games were the order of the day as Edwinstowe scraped home by one wicket against Clumber Park, thanks to captain John Kirk, with 23 not out, seeing his side home despite Dave Beard bowling two overs taking 1 for 1 to add to his 37 runs in the Clumber innings.

The performance of the week went to Barmy Army whose modest 92 for 6 total was enough to inflict a rare defeat on Tea Bags. Tom Ullyott was last man out for 36 with his side only 6 runs short. Thoresby Park beat an again disappointing Mafia with their Chris Murphy the game's top scorer on 28, to complete the curse of the top scorers finishing on the losing side. Langold's Dean Randle scored 32 of his sides 72 for 6 total which Glapwell passed with 6 wickets in hand.

On Wednesday, Shirebrook had all rounder Gary Hall to thank for saving their 100% record with 30 not out, the last 25 of which he was batting on his own, to track down Blyth's 73 all out total. Bilsthorpe batted better this week, knocking off Done & Dusted's 88 for 2 total with four overs to spare. The last game of the night was a classic with Shireoaks closing in on Cuckney Terriers 81 total before Cliff Adwick took the last 3 wickets in 3 balls (one being a run out) to finish the game in a hurry and give his side a 19 run victory.

After my plea last week for captains to fill in the totals of wickets and runs scored, I would like to thank all the ten Sunday captains. I would like to thank them but as not one was filled in I won’t bother.

Cheers Steve.
