Terriers take the Wednesday league title
by Steve Spencer, 25th November 2006

Blidworth fielded a strong side for their Sunday shootout with Cuckney Cowboys and, after restricting them to a modest 84 for 4, things looked to be going to plan before a batting collapse left them all out for only 62. The reliable Chris Dove saved his side from a total rout with 32.

Kiveton Park's reign as league leaders was short lived as a two wicket defeat by last season's champions Thoresby Park saw the Cowboys replace them in top spot with only a week to go. Bawtry ended their disappointing run with a comfortable 31 run win over Pilsley and will be hoping to hang on to the final play-off spot in 6th place.KC is in unstoppable form for Killamarsh taking 4 for 6 in 3 overs and then scoring 53 not out to beat Clowne by a narrow one wicket margin.

It’s all to play for in the final week with five teams fighting it out for three play-off places.

Langold were the big movers on Monday beating the Mafia to climb from bottom to fourth place, and with the other games going to form this division is even tighter with the bottom five teams all still in with a chance of progressing.

Shirebrook were pipped at the post in the Wednesday league after leading all season. Defeat by rampant Shireoaks let in Cuckney Terriers who strolled to a six wicket win over Walesby to take the title. Bilsthorpe put paid to Tricky Trees' play-off hopes, Neil Wing top scoring with 28 not out hitting the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the game. Blyth set Done & Dusted a daunting target of 145 to win, and despite a great 72 not out by Gareth Wharmby the youngsters fell just short on 137 for 6, setting a season's record aggregate total of 282 runs in the match and giving Blyth the final play-off spot.

Cheers Steve.
