Giant killers Bawtry face holders in quarter finals Some great matches in the first round off the play-offs. Thoresby Park were held to 92 for 6 by Langold with Steve Blagg the pick of their bowlers with 1 for 7 in 3 overs. The Langold reply got off to a slow start before Bryn Smith cut loose hitting 2 sixes in 39, before he was run out and the innings lost momentum as they finished on 78 for 6. New Sunday champions Cuckney Cowboys were the victims of a giant killing as sixth place Bawtry played out of their skins to record a one run win off the last ball. Dave Hunt, who had hit the penultimate ball for six to give his side a chance, was run out off the last ball for one to book Bawtry a quarter final draw against holders Tea Bags. Another close tie saw Kiveton Park captain Matt Cartwright batting on his own to finish off Barmy Army who had set the104 to win target thanks mainly to 37 by Darren Walker. None of the Wednesday league teams p rogressed to the next round as easy wins by Clumber Park, Clowne and Tea Bags beat off the challenge of Shirebrook, Cuckney Terriers and Blyth. The best contest came in the last game of the night. Edwinstowe (113 for 6), with Paul Benson top scoring on 28 not out, set the young Shireoaks side a daunting target against the strong Edwinstowe attack. To their credit, they gave it a go and only a controversial run out off the penultimate ball of the game with the scores tied robbed them of a place in the last eight, as they went out by virtue of losing seven wickets to Edwinstowe's six. Cheers Steve.
