Mayor of Derby cricket competitions 2006 The Jackson Cup first round was played on Wednesday June 14th, with the exception of Denby v Quarndon, which was cancelled because the ground was not available. This will have to be rearranged. The results in the three matches played were:- Ilkeston Rutland 93-2 beat Ockbrook 88 all out by 8 wickets The teams arrived at the Rutland ground to find that no pitch had been marked out, so they agreed to play on an old strip where the markings were clear. Ockbrook batted first and openers Mark Cassar and Trevor Smith were in confident mood, but they didn’t last long and wickets continued to fall at short intervals, and they were all out in 16 overs for 88. Top scorer was Chris Dunn who made 24. Skipper David Smit took 3-7 in his four overs. With a target of just over 4 an over Rutland wasted no time and after losing 2 wickets George Moulds 25 not out and Aussie Matt Taylor 36 not out raced to victory in 8.5 overs. Sawley 113-7 lost to Spondon 114-5 by 5 wickets Sawley batted first and used up their 20 overs. Top scorer was Dan Mierkalns who made 45 not out off 57 balls. Spondon overtook their score in 16.1 overs, with Sam Kellogg making 24 and Tom Holmes 25 not out. Long Eaton 99 all out lost to Sandiacre Town 101-6 by 4 wickets This proved to be a close contest, with the winning run coming with four balls to go. Long Eaton batted first and were all out in the 20th over. Naeem Akhter took 3-14 and John Trueman took 3-8. Trueman carried the Sandiacre batting, scoring 53 not out, but it was close in the end.
