Grey skies, rain and the quacking of ducks
by Mark Simmerson, 23rd May 2006

Well, there’s nothing to report beyond continuous grey skies, rain and the quacking of ducks on cricket squares. Only those hardy locals of Stanton, which must have been above the cloud-base, played any cricket last weekend. Stocksbridge made 164 (A.Siddall 544, M.Clark 5-51) and when Stanton reached 4 without loss the weather sent the teams scurrying to the sanctuary of the Flying Childers to dry out.

Hopefully Bank Holiday will see alt least some play. But with depressions stacking up over the Atlantic like Jumbos in a holding pattern over Heathrow, I wouldn’t bet on it. I’m not sure whether to be suicidal or homicidal. To be on the safe side, if you must drive a 4x4 and have those pathetic England flags sticking out of the windows, just don’t drive through the red light near the Kiddies when I’m crossing the road…
