Anston's run continues After the steady downpour of Sunday it was inevitable that the bulk of the matches would be called off on Bank Holiday Monday and so it proved with just one match surviving in the top two divisions at Ryton Road, Anston. After a poor start which saw them lingering at the foot of the table, Anston have really put it together and their latest conquest was to beat North Wheatley with Leverton by six wickets to make it three consecutive wins. North Wheatley started brightly with Wayne Harrison (44) and Dave Waller (36) both batting well but when these two prolific run getters were out the picture changed dramatically. They were dismissed for just 167 with Fred Clark (4 for 45) and Steve Maddock (3 for 46) doing the damage and on what is normally a very good track, this target barely looked enough. And so it proved with the very much in-form Matt Hewitt making a cultured 67 and skipper Andy Forster weighing in with 41as Anston cruised home on 171 for 4. Jamie Bovill showed that he still knows what it is all about taking 3 for 16, but it was too little, too late for North Wheatley who could have done with a few more runs. From looking everybody’s chopping blocks, Anston are now very much in contention near the top of this very competitive league.
