Mallen Trophy news Group A Worksop 99 for 9, Marshalls 100 for 2This match marked the debut of Worksop’s new Sri-Lankan recruit Nandika Ranjith, but unfortunately for them the result was just the same as they had been suffering for weeks with Marshalls winning comfortably by eight wickets. Not that Ranjith didn’t make his mark as he showed his ability with 36 very useful runs and received excellent support from his skipper Luke Ambrose who contributed a further 22 runs and David Hancock with 17. The rest made little impact as the tight Marshalls attack in which Paul Van den Heuvel (3 for 17), and Paul Andrews (2 for 19) bowled with miserly precision to limit their opponents to a disappointing 99 for 9. This target proved no problem to Marshalls who made 100 for 2 with ease thanks mainly to Mark Davies (51 n.o.) and Chris Hearn (27) as their side moved ever closer to finals day. Group C Kiveton Park 82 for 4, Killamarsh 49 for 4This low scoring match came about principally because the weather limited it tio ten overs per side. Batting first Kiveton raced along at eight runs an over, and never at any time did Killamarsh look capable of keeping up with that. FINALS DAY THIS SUNDAY 15th JULY The two semi-finals and final will take place this Sunday at the Notts. & Arnold Amateur ground at the Goosedale Sports Complex between Papplewick and Bestwood. The show gets on the road at 12.00 noon with the semi-finals being played simultaneously on the two respective grounds there. Even though the weather conditions have caused major problems and only one side Marshalls have definitely qualified for the finals, the others are expected to have been sorted out by the middle of this week. The final will be played at 3.30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to what should be a tremendous day of cricket.
