Clowne take advantage and move into play-off spot The top three on Sunday all lost to let fourth place Clowne take advantage of their convincing 50 run win over Thoresby Park to move into the third play-off spot at the expense of Kiveton Park, who failed against improving Cuckney Cowboys, despite a good 50 not out from Tom Ullyott. Cowboys' opener Steve Walker with 27 and Dave Hunt with 41 not out secured the 116 needed for victory for the loss of six wickets. Bawtry's young side have come a long way over the last two seasons and, well led by captain Paul Warren, they became only the second team to get the better of Killamarsh, as they scored the 86 required for victory for the loss of only two wickets. On Monday, Springboks regained second place with a 60 run win over Clumber Park, Steve Bentley top scoring in the game with 45 not out. Old rivals Barmy Army and Langold played out a hard fought match with Army coming out on top with a narrow two wicket win, and Tea Bags march on beating Edwinstowe by 4 wickets. The answer to last week's question about what Steve Blagg and Matt Page had in common in the Monday league was that after 11 games they were the only two batsmen not to be dismissed by Tea Bags who had taken 75 out of the 77 wickets on offer. Richard Gombos now joins that elite band despite being on the wrong side of a four wicket defeat. He remained unbeaten on 26 not out. Wednesday saw the return game of the Shires. Last time out it was Oaks who won the day. This time round proved to be one of the games of the season as Brook managed to hold the free scoring league leaders to a 113 all out total. Shirebrook are a lot better bowling than batting side but on this occasion, aided by a great start from Andy Cann with 36 and Craig Rowland with 31, they got home with three balls to spare for the loss of five wickets to replace Shireoaks at the top. Done & Dusted and Blyth have long since given up any chance of the play-offs, but they are both young teams that look to have promising futures in the game. Batting first D & D lost quick wickets and only 30 from Natalie Rowbottom saved them from a total rout. After 23 from opener Danny Brighton, Blyth lost five wickets for only 14 runs, before Captain Nick Widdowson came to the crease. A mix up in running saw the end of Brighton but Widdowson batted on, and with two overs to go 21 were needed for victory. 14 from the penultimate over left the game well poised, before fine bowling from Mark Spooner left four to win with two balls left when a great catch from Matt Page gave D & D the points by a four run margin. Cheers Steve.
