High scoring Langold looking good
by Steve Spencer, 15th December 2007

A few upsets in round one with Tricky Trees putting out Clumber Park after bowling them out for a modest 63. They made short work in reply using only 8.3 overs for the loss of only two wickets. The draw paired the top two Monday sides, and thanks to an inspired performance from Mafia's Richard Bentley, who after taking two cheap wickets in the Calypso Kids innings of 105 all out, he smashed 55 not out including the 33 needed to win off the final two overs, to complete a one wicket victory off the final ball of the game.

Tea Bags' end of season blues continue, going out at the first stage after Paul Burdett, with 41, and Sam Malpass, with 26, chalked up an impressive 124 all out total for Killamarsh which proved 15 too many as Bags were bowled out for 109.

The only league winners through were Clowne who had few problems in a 34 run win over Walesby, and Langold must be in with a chance after an comprehensive 33 run defeat of Bawtry. Cuckney Terriers put out Wednesday champs Shirebrook by a four wicket margin. Cuckney Cowboys beat Mansfield & Pleasley Dragons in a close finish and Blidworth proved much too strong for the senior Mansfield & Pleasley side, beating them by 47 runs.

Play-off results round one

Cuckney Terriers (87-3) beat Shirebrook (86-6)
Langold (120-6) beat Bawtry (87-7)
Tricky Trees (64-2) beat Clumber Park (63-7)
Killamarsh (124-7) beat Tea Bags (109-7)
Clowne (108-7) beat Walesby (74-5)
Cuckney Cowboys (111-6) beat M & P Dragons (95-6)
Blidworth (113-3) beat Mansfield & Pleasley (66-7)
The Mafia (109-6) beat Calypso Kids (105-7)

In the play-off quarter finals, Langold eased into the semis with another high scoring effort. This time Adam Dutton led the way with 32, backed up with good scores down the order including a quick fire 27 from Captain Steve Blag. Their 125 all out total was always going to prove out of the young Cuckney Terriers reach and 58 runs was the difference between the two at the end.

Flying the flag for the Wednesday League are Tricky Trees after beating the Cowboys by three wickets, and The Mafia are looking good after beating the Monday champs. In the first round, they put paid to the Sunday winners, knocking out Clowne after reaching their 79 for 6 target with four wickets down.

After being bowled out for only 72, Killamarsh looked to be heading out but, despite a fighting 39 from Craig Turton, Blidworth could only manage 65 in what proved to be the game of the night.

Play-off quarter final results

Langold (125-7) beat Cuckney Terriers (67-5)
Tricky Trees (94-4) beat Cuckney Cowboys (91-7)
The Mafia (81-4) best Clowne (79-6)
