Nervous Nomads fail to upset the form book
by Steve Spencer, 27th October 2007

With three balls left and only five runs required to upset the form book and beat top side Clowne, nerves got the better of Nomads and they finished four runs short on 88 for 6. Another great game on Sunday was the Mansfield & Pleasley v Blidworth clash, with Mansfield & Pleasley needing 16 to win off the last over. They made it with a ball to spare, Richard Bostock top scoring with 45 not out and captain Matt Page, 36 not out, taking his team to an exciting three wicket win.

The best of the Monday games was the low scoring clash between new boys Wiseton Lions and the Calypso Kids. In a nail biter of a finish, Lions' David Barker scored the last ten runs required batting on his own, after Adam Kay had top scored with 20.

Earlier James Hubbell had scored 27 of Kids' 67 all out total and taken 2 for 8, in an exciting well matched affair. Barker, who was caught off a no ball in the final over, went on to hit the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the match to finish on 16 not out. Cuckney Terriers moved into second place after beating Edwinstowe, again with only one ball to spare.

The two unbeaten sides on Wednesday did battle, and it was Shirebrook who came out on top with Grant Smedley 33 and Craig Rowland 26 top scoring as they chased down Tricky Trees 107 for 6 total, winning again off the penultimate ball of the game.

The Mansfield & Pleasley Dragons broke their duck, mainly thanks to a fine 61 not out by Abbey Hawkins, taking them to 120 for 6. Teversal gave it a go with Carl Hewitt, 53 not out, and Kev Hewitt 26, but the rest of the batting failed to leave them 22 runs short on 98 for 6.

Cheers Steve.
