Pentagon Knock-out Cup 1st round Sponsored by PENTAGON VAUXHALL The newly sponsored Pentagon Knock-Out cup completed its first round this week. PENTAGON who have Vauxhall dealerships in Mansfield and Arnold have entered into cricket sponsorship for the first time, sponsoring both the Mansfield League senior Knock-out Cup and two Mansfield Junior League competitions Last year’s winners MANSFIELD HOSIERY MILLS had a narrow victory over WELBECK winning by just 5 runs despite David Hall scoring an unbeaten 53 for Welbeck. HOSIERY MILLS now entertain MANSFIELD & PLEASLEY in the next round. MANSFIELD & PLEASLEY beat their Division One rivals SHERWOOD COLLIERY by 7 wickets Last year's beaten finalists BLIDWORTH were beaten in the first round in a close finish ending just 18 runs short of NEWSTEAD ABBEY & VILLAGE. That earns NEWSTEAD a home tie with SOUTH NORMANTON in the next round The division four club CUTTHORPE who got off to a bad start losing three early wickets were unable to pull off any giant killing as they were well beaten by Premier club GLAPWELL. The reformed CUCKNEY first team had a convincing win over Premier side KIRKBY PORTLAND with some of their new players Richard Stroh (45) and Will Butler (46) setting a score out which proved to high for their opponents. In the next round CUCKNEY are to play away at GLAPWELL The only other tie saw NOMADS receive a bye from RAINWORTH who had withdrawn from the competition. NOMADS now entertain a new club to the League SHIPLEY HALL at home.
