Cuckney finish on a high The Mansfield & District Cricket League held its Knock out final at Glapwell on Sunday 16th September between Cuckney and Nomads. Cuckney, who the week previous had gained promotion to the Premier Division, opened the batting and got off to a brisk start which ended up with them reaching 221 for 4 from their 30 overs. The main contributions were made by Will Ullyott 53, Tom Ullyatt 42, and Richard Bostock 32 not out. Only two Nomads bowlers got into the wickets with Garry Smedley taking 1-36, and Phillip Buxton 1-50. Following the break, Nomads got off to a good start but then wickets started to fall at regular intervals with only Nick Grabowski 37, Ben Haynes-Greenwood 34 and Paul Simpson 22 showing any resistance. For Cuckney Tom Ullyatt took 3-22 and Greg Searston 2-19. Nomads finished on 148 for 7 at the end of their allotted overs giving Cuckney a win by 73 runs.
During the presentation, which was made by Miss Lorraine Green representing the sponsor Pentagon Vauxhall, thanks were given to Glapwell Cricket Club for staging the event and to the sponsor, Pentagon Vauxhall, for their support.
Mr. Len Jones and Mr. Gerry Grainey (pictured above) were the umpires for the day and the Man of the Match award winner was Tom Ullyatt from Cuckney. The match balls were sponsored by Mr. Stan Green, the League’s Chairman.
